Job Description:

At Leonardo, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer to join the team at the Southampton site. The Infra-Red Sensing Business and the Integrated Communication Systems Business are based at this site. This role is key to the continuing success of these activities.

In this role, you will collaborate with local Project teams and the wider Leonardo UK Supplier Quality team to identify, scope, and implement tangible improvement opportunities in the supply chain.

The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving quality performance for strategic suppliers involving a wide range of components and sub-assemblies for the Defence Electronics and Manufacturing industry.

What you will do as a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer:

  • Identify and implement IPT improvement opportunities within the external supply chain.
  • Ensure supply chain risks and opportunities are identified, mitigated, and exploited as required.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 Revision D, with particular emphasis on the process.
  • Identify and deliver internal procurement improvement opportunities to support delivery and cost benefits.
  • Implement Supplier Failure Review Boards to drive IPT improvement opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of the Supplier Surveillance Plan to maintain a strategic and proactive approach to supply chain management.
  • Support, as required, generic capability reviews in the external supply chain.
  • Assist with all ad hoc procurement and external supply issues.

What we need from you:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or experience in Defence Electronics or similarly complex industries.
  • Experience in governance, AS9100 / ISO9001, and continuous improvement.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience producing key quality and supply chain metrics supporting continuous improvement.
  • Experience working within a project team environment, balancing governance and support.
  • Proactive management of non-conformance within the external supply chain.
  • Experience deploying tools and techniques such as APQP, PPAP, 8D, PFMEAs, Lean, 5S, root cause analysis, DMAIC, first article verifications.
  • Familiarity with procurement disciplines within the defence electronics and manufacturing industry.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements affecting the external supply chain.
  • Ability to identify and deliver change programs in the external supply chain.
  • Experience in quality auditing, preferably lead audit trained.
  • Computer literacy, including data review and interrogation using SAP, and report preparation using MS Office.
  • Strong communication skills to present detailed information effectively at all levels.
