We are recruiting for a Senior Supervisor (Senior Associate) to join the Principal Trading Firms (PTF) supervision team at the FCA to supervise algorithmic trading firms. The team sits within the Wholesale Market Intermediaries department at the FCA; the department plays a key role in supervising UK secondary markets. As a senior associate in the team, you will play an important role delivering the FCA’s supervisory strategy for this important portfolio of firms.

The PTFs supervision team supervises around 60 principal trading firms. These firms derive the majority proportion of their revenue from trading as principal. The portfolio includes algorithmic trading firms, which could trade high frequency, and commodity trading firms, which trade in commodity markets. PTFs play a valuable role in wholesale financial markets. They can have a significant impact on liquidity provision and price formation due to their large trading footprint and trading strategies. They are often at the cutting edge of technological developments in financial markets, helping to drive innovation and efficiency. As a result, PTF activities convey particular responsibilities to the UK and its financial markets

If you have experience within wholesale financial markets, can demonstrate strong use of judgement and have excellent communication skills, this could be the role for you.

What will you be doing?

As a senior supervisor in the team, you will work closely with the wider team and the manager, designing and delivering the supervisory strategy for the portfolio. This includes designing workstreams that help to advance the supervisory priorities for the portfolio, seeking senior level agreement for their execution and steering them through to completion.

You will also directly supervise a range of algorithmic trading firms, taking responsibility of supervisory cases across a range of topics, including around market abuse and market resilience as well as firms’ prudential resilience and their algorithmic controls. You will efficiently manage a variety of complex reactive casework including whistleblowing cases. You will work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including senior individuals at principal trading firms, to resolve these cases and set clear expectations to firms. In addition, you will support other team members by providing input to their supervision strategies, and develop their supervision skills and technical know-how, using your skills and experience.

What will you get from the role?

The role offers a challenging, interesting and varied portfolio of work, collaborating with colleagues from across the FCA. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to make a real difference to standards in a fast-moving, innovative and important part of the wholesale financial markets and to rapidly develop their supervisory skills. The role offers the chance to develop skills in financial services supervision and build connections across all key FCA functions and with external stakeholders

Which skills are required?

We are a Disability Confident Employer; therefore, disabled people or individuals with long-term conditions who best meet the minimum criteria for a role will go through to the next stage of the recruitment process. (To learn more about the Disability Confident Scheme Click Here )
