Base Location: Successful applicants must be based in one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, or Aberdeen.

Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

The Role

Join our SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works as a Senior Substation Engineer within the newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team. Help advance our Island projects and support the delivery of a net zero network. These projects connect to HVDC systems and feature advanced AC plant, grid control, and stabilization technology.

Responsibilities

1. Review and approve primary substation designs (33kV to 400kV), including Single Line Diagrams, Stage by Stage Diagrams, Electrical layouts, and Scope of Work documentation.
2. Promote best practices in substation design, suggesting improvements in specifications, technological innovations, and risk management.
3. Support decision-making and peer review of key project issues.
4. Provide technical support to and direct Project Engineers within their specialist areas, assisting with recruitment and training needs.
5. Advise on the performance of external engineering consultants and contractors involved in the project portfolio.

Candidate Requirements

1. Experience in transmission development/design/specification up to 400kV, with the ability to assess technical issues and solutions critically.
2. Strong understanding of relevant legislation (e.g., CDM & ESQCR) and its implications for assets and projects.
3. Effective communication skills to clearly convey complex technical information to senior management.
4. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to build lasting relationships.
5. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is preferred.
