Role: Senior AC Substation Design Specialist
Location: Manchester Area, England
Overview: Responsible for providing auxiliary power designs, solutions, and technical input to contracts in all areas within the employee’s business area. Delivering departmental work packages on time and within budget.

Role and responsibilities:
- Produce LVAC, LVDC, and UPS single line diagrams for onshore and offshore substations up to 400kV associated with LTS.
- Develop technical specifications for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS for onshore and offshore substations up to 400kV associated with LTS.
- Create protection and control designs for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS equipment related to LTS.
- Conduct LVAC coordination studies and cable sizing calculations using Amtech software, and prepare comprehensive study reports.
- Perform LVDC coordination studies and cable sizing calculations, producing complete reports.
- Review supplier schematic diagrams for LVAC, LVDC, and UPS, along with related documentation.
- Coordinate LVAC, LVDC, and UPS alarm signals and control commands to/from SCADA through protection schematics and control logic.
- Coordinate layout locations and dimensions of LVAC, LVDC, and UPS into primary layout drawings.
- Produce sizing documents for auxiliary transformers, DG sets, and DC battery systems.
- Create technical specifications for auxiliary transformers, coordinating physical dimensions and layout with the primary design.
- Develop engineering and test specifications for new and existing solutions.
- Participate in internal and external design reviews, providing technical input.
- Produce auxiliary power compliance matrices, design intent documents, and functional design specifications.
- Contribute to design risk assessments, ensuring all risks and HAZIDS are identified, controlled, and compliant with health and safety legislation.
- Ensure quality and consistency by conducting functional testing during factory acceptance testing at suppliers’ facilities.
Requirements:
- Typically 7 years of design experience within the electricity transmission and distribution industry.
- Experience with British and UK standards.
- Experience with auxiliary transformers, DG sets, LVAC, and LVDC systems.
- Experience with battery and UPS systems.
- Proficiency in cable sizing using Amtech software, MCB, and fuse coordination.
