The Department

Student Services is a large, multidisciplinary team that plays a crucial role in supporting our students. Student Money & Immigration Advice includes guidance on Student Finance, UWL’s internal Scholarships and Bursaries, and Student visa and immigration advice to support international students. We are a close-knit team that helps and supports each other, working hard while maintaining a sociable environment that aims to provide an excellent student experience.

The Role

The post holder will develop and manage the day-to-day operations of an effective Student Advice service, sharing responsibilities with the Senior Student Advisor (Money & Funding). They will undertake specialist casework related to international students and their visas, including Fee Status assessments and other issues affecting their ability to study at UWL and in London, such as eVisas, digital statuses, and the EU Settlement Scheme. Knowledge of core Student visa regulations is essential, and familiarity with other visa routes like the Graduate Route, Skilled Worker, and Youth Mobility Scheme will be advantageous, especially as the team participates in webinars on immigration options post-study.

The post holder will also support the Head of Student Money & Immigration Advice in developing initiatives to improve communication and engagement with students, Schools/Colleges, and Central Services to promote understanding of the team’s services.

This role requires flexibility, with occasional weekend and evening work. It is primarily based on campus at St. Mary’s Road, with some cover at the Brentford site once or twice a week.

The Person

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, proactive, and organized Senior Student Advisor with proven team management skills and the ability to handle conflicting priorities and tight deadlines. Excellent administrative, time management, interpersonal, communication, advocacy, and customer service skills are essential, along with extensive experience in casework and working closely with students and staff. Knowledge of UKVI regulations and immigration rules related to the Student visa route is required. Strong IT skills and flexibility are also necessary to succeed in this role.
