Job summary

A Midlands-based opportunity for a Senior Structures Engineer to join a major public sector infrastructure organisation on a permanent basis. The role can be based in Birmingham or Nottingham and requires a full UK driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.

The successful candidate will lead structural assessments, asset management activities, and the review and management of highway structures to ensure safety and serviceability of critical infrastructure assets.

Qualifications

• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (Civil or Structural) or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in highway structures asset management and structural assessments.
• Strong knowledge of DMRB standards, Eurocodes, Specifications for Highway Works and related methodologies.
• Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in engineering.
• Good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate structural assessment activities, technical reviews, and resources for identifying and managing structural risks.
• Undertake urgent/high-priority structural assessments to evaluate risks and determine interim measures.
• Review technical documentation and provide feedback to external consultants as required.
• Prepare briefs and support surveys/investigations informing structural assessments and reviews.

Job description

Our client, a major public sector infrastructure organisation, is seeking an experienced Senior Structures Engineer to join their Midlands team on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will provide technical expertise across structural assessments, asset management activities, and the review and management of highway structures. This role will take the lead on high-priority structural assessments, risk management activities, and the management of substandard structures to ensure the continued safety and serviceability of critical infrastructure assets.

This position can be based in either Birmingham or Nottingham.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate structural assessment activities, technical reviews, and associated resources involved in the identification and management of structural risks.

Undertake urgent and high-priority structural assessments to evaluate structural risks and determine any required interim measures.

Carry out technical reviews of highway structure assets to identify assessment requirements, priorities, and risk mitigation measures.

Produce and manage interim measures documentation, obtaining necessary technical approvals and overseeing implementation.

Prepare briefs and support the delivery of surveys and investigations that inform structural assessments and reviews.

Manage and review technical documentation produced by external consultants, providing technical feedback and guidance where required.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:

Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (Civil or Structural Engineering) or equivalent relevant experience.

Proven experience in highway structures asset management, structural assessments, and technical reviews.

Strong knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards, Eurocodes, Specifications for Highway Works, and associated methodologies.

Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.

Good understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and associated responsibilities.

Excellent technical, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
