Job description

We are looking for a Senior Structured Underwriter (m/f), based in London.

The Impact You Will Have

At Allianz Commercial, we are dedicated to supporting our clients by working with them to deliver the best possible solutions to the management, control and reduction of risks.

Based in London and reporting directly to the Regional Head of Alternative Risk Transfer, Regional Unit London, you will help to implement the global strategy for Alternative Risk Transfer as part of the small, highly entrepreneurial, regional team.

Your core responsibility will be underwriting Alternative Risk Transfer stand-alone and program transactions. As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to show leadership and generate new business while coordinating ad hoc "deal teams" to provide bespoke solutions to Allianz Commercial's corporate client base. Your responsibilities will also be to assist in the development of a wider knowledge of Alternative Risk Transfer products across Allianz Commercial.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:

• Work independently to achieve the team's goals as part of a dynamic underwriting and support team.

• Be an active contributor to the regional and global ART team.

• Independently underwrite new Alternative Risk Transfer stand-alone and/or Program Transactions within the ART Underwriting Governance Framework and appetite.

• Actively source new business from the Broker and Direct markets.

• Actively promote ART techniques and methods such that clients and brokers gain a better understanding of what ART offers as solutions.

• Support the Regional Alternative Risk Transfer head and Alternative Risk Transfer Executive Underwriters in the identification of growth opportunities as well as with the planning & budgeting process.

• Train, develop and coach less experienced staff (including junior underwriters, operations, credit control)

• When appropriate conduct operational oversight of Alternative Risk Transfer Program transactions ensuring that program partners provide all required information and perform all aspects of their guidelines.

• Understand and follow appropriate compliance rules.

• Ensure accurate policy documentation in reinsurance and insurance form.

• Liaise and Coordinate with ART Deal Legal to develop and proactively support the completion of policy wordings.

What You'll Bring to the Role

• Preferably, you have a degree or equivalent in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance and/or Actuarial background.

• Ideally, you have 5 years' experience working exclusively with Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) transactions and products such that you are very familiar with the component parts and methods. Or alternatively you have extensive underwriting knowledge within one or more lines of business.

• Good knowledge of the ART marketplace and its main actors.

• Thorough understanding of the underwriting of ART products and the fundamental differences to traditional insurance products with an emphasis on pricing standalone transactions and portfolios.

• Practical expertise in tracking complex transactions, deal performance, parametric settlement, internal reporting of Alternative Risk Transfer transactions and transacting and managing ART products with corporate clients and their captives.

• Extensive experience of negotiating legal documents with corporate customers internationally while working closely with internal Legal and Compliance functions.

• Ability to integrate AI-driven insights into your work to optimize outcomes and support broader organizational goals.

• Excellent communication skills, you are an entrepreneurial thinker, analytical and able to persuade and motivate others to act.

• Fluent English skills.
