Job summary

JC Portable Site Accommodation in Chichester is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabricator / MIG-MAG Welder. You will fabricate, weld and assemble structural steel components for modular buildings in our yard and support their installation across the UK. A strong eye for detail and pride in craftsmanship are essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2/3 in Fabrication & Welding or equivalent.
• CSCS Card or equivalent construction competency card.
• Proven MIG/MAG welding experience on mild steel.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Fabrication and assembly of structural steel frames.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate structural steel components from engineering drawings.
• Perform MIG/MAG welding on mild steel to specification.
• Assemble steel frames for modular buildings.
• Tack welding, final welding and grinding to required standards.
• Operate fabrication tools and follow health and safety procedures.
• Assist with installation/erection of modular buildings on site.

Salary: £35,100 – £46,800 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent; Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm (45 hours per week)

In this role, you will fabricate, weld and assemble structural steel components for modular buildings in our yard and support their installation on-site across the UK. Key Responsibilities

• Fabricate structural steel components from engineering drawings.
• Carry out high-quality MIG/MAG welding on mild steel sections.
• Assemble steel frames for modular buildings.
• Perform tack welding, final welding and grinding to specification.
• Use fabrication equipment including saws, drills, grinders and hand tools.
• Interpret fabrication drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Assist with the installation and erection of steel-framed modular buildings on site.
• Ensure all work complies with quality standards and welding procedures.
• Work effectively as part of a fabrication and installation team.
• Maintain your dedicated workstation and tools to a high standard, ensure full procedural compliance, and take genuine pride in workshop cleanliness. Strictly follow all company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality systems - this includes wearing correct PPE, participating in briefings, and keeping both the yard and construction sites safe and tidy.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

• Minimum NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Fabrication & Welding, Structural Steelwork or equivalent
• Valid CSCS Card (or equivalent construction competency card)
• Proven experience in MIG/MAG welding of mild steel
• Experience in fabrication and assembly of structural steelwork
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Good understanding of fabrication techniques and workshop machinery
• Willingness to work away from home when required for site installations
• Full UK Driving License

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Coded welding qualifications (advantageous but not essential)
• IPAF and/or PASMA certification
• Telehandler or Forklift License
• Overhead Crane experience
• SSSTS or Site Safety qualification
• Experience within modular construction or off-site manufacturing
• Experience with structural steel erection on construction sites
