Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting a Structural Engineer in Exeter to shape the civil and structural elements of water and wastewater schemes. You’ll guide designs from feasibility through to construction, ensuring compliance with current standards and delivering safe, efficient solutions.

You will lead a team, perform detailed analyses, and coordinate with design, construction and operational colleagues to drive project success while mentoring graduates and engineers on site.

Qualifications

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Chartered member of a professional institution or equivalent experience.
• Experience with water or wastewater projects.
• Knowledge of design codes and standards (Eurocodes, British Standards).
• Proficient in structural analysis software: Staad Pro, ETABS, SAP2000.
• Experience delivering high quality outputs to design, safety, and quality standards.
• Effective communication with team and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review schemes to ensure fit for purpose and compliance.
• Produce detailed structural calculations, drawings, specifications and reports.
• Conduct site inspections and assess structures for repair or replacement.
• Review procurement documentation and supplier technical submissions.
• Challenge client specifications and defend solutions to complex problems.
• Mentor graduates and engineers; collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Ensure buildability and integration with other disciplines.
