Job summary

Vertical Recruitment is working with an established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy to appoint an experienced Principal Structural Engineer to strengthen its Structural Engineering team. The role combines technical leadership with client development and mentoring responsibilities.

You will lead structural projects across rail, transport, water and industrial infrastructure, oversee feasibility, detailed design and construction support, and collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• 8-10+ years of relevant structural engineering consultancy experience.
• Chartered status with IStructE or ICE, or approaching Chartership.
• Strong experience in structural analysis and design, particularly steelwork and reinforced concrete.
• Proven track record delivering projects from feasibility through construction.
• Good understanding of UK design standards and CDM requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural engineering projects across rail, transportation, water and industrial infrastructure.
• Undertake structural analysis and design across steelwork, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber and foundations.
• Manage feasibility studies, detailed design and construction-stage technical support.
• Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
• Provide technical guidance on complex design challenges and buildability.
• Coordinate with civil, geotechnical and other disciplines to develop practical design solutions.
• Manage project programmes, fees, resources and deliverables.
• Work with clients and contractors, contributing to proposals and maintaining relationships.
• Mentor engineers and technicians to develop team capability.
