Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti in the United Kingdom seeks a Senior Structural Project Engineer for its Protective Design & Security practice. The role focuses on applying core structural engineering skills to traditional buildings while developing expertise in blast and protective design.

You will lead small to medium projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and support senior colleagues on larger schemes, contributing to challenging and rewarding security-focused projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or closely related).
• Chartered or working towards chartership with a recognised body (e.g. ICE, IStructE).
• Proven experience delivering structural engineering projects, ideally including security or defence exposure.
• Experience coordinating with other design disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structural designs for buildings in high-security environments from concept to construction.
• Lead and manage small to medium projects, including planning, resourcing, program and quality control.
• Coordinate input from architecture, MEP, civil and specialists to ensure integrated solutions.
• Attend meetings and clearly present structural design decisions to stakeholders.
• Support protective design and blast engineering under guidance of specialists.
• Mentor junior staff and foster knowledge sharing within the team.
