Job Role:
The candidate’s ability to work cross-functionally is essential, as assignments may include all aspects of Process Safety. This involves providing sound technical advice and solutions to a variety of technical problems within the discipline. The candidate should be capable of performing HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, and other safety workshops when required, as well as conducting qualitative and quantitative risk assessments. These assessments include hazard identification, development of accidental release scenarios, consequence modeling (dispersion, fire, explosion), frequency analysis (including Event Tree and Fault Tree analysis), presentation of risk results, and report preparation. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of Technical Safety study methodologies, software modeling, and report review across different phases—FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and Plant Start-up—are required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Participate as Subject Matter Expert in project Risk Assessment Studies such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, PHSER, and other safety workshops as required.
- Lead the team to ensure successful completion of HSEIA processes.
- Serve as Lead Engineer on projects or proposals, review contract requirements, and plan and organize project document delivery.
- Review and interpret P&ID, HMB, plant layout, operating procedures, documentation, and drawings.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design projects and workshops.
- Perform fire-water demand calculations.
- Design fire & gas detection layouts.
- Develop cause & effect analyses for fire detection & suppression systems.
- Prepare safety equipment layouts and specifications.
- Perform and review Safety Cases, HSEIA, and Design HSE Cases.
- Review reports such as FERA, QRA, EERA, ESSA, and performance standards.
- Assess escape, evacuation, rescue, and recovery procedures.
- Conduct design reviews and verifications.
- Facilitate and chair workshops like HAZOP, PHA, LOPA, HAZID, SIL, ALARP, and PHSER—both short and long duration.
- Deliver training and develop training materials for HAZOP, PHA, HAZID, and SIL.
- Possess knowledge of SIMOPS, MOPO, constructability review—desirable skills.
- Perform hazardous area assessments.
- Verify and validate SIL analyses.
- Lead project roles, manage client interfaces, and coordinate meetings as required.
- Support junior staff in technical safety studies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or relevant field.
- Minimum 15+ years of experience in Technical Safety & Risk within EPC for the Oil & Gas industry.
- Knowledge of ADNOC, SABIC, Saudi Aramco, QE standards for process safety and risk management—desirable.
- Prior experience in the hydrocarbon industry (Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, Heavy Chemicals, Fertilizer Plants).
- Understanding of refinery processes, plant equipment, and process control.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID and PFD (mandatory).
- Knowledge of process safety studies such as CFD, RAM, and dropped object studies—an added advantage.
- Extensive technical, practical, and leadership experience in the process discipline, including managing multidisciplinary projects and teams.
