From cutting-edge defence technology to ground-breaking innovations our mission is to empower and protect lives. Join us as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at our Haslar site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.

The Role
As Senior Structural Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and analysis of structural and non-structural components, assemblies and castings from their initial concept through to final production. You'll work with other team members supporting the development of complex multi material assemblies, including the design and analysis of bolted and bonded joints.

  • Encourage increased collaboration across the Group/wider technical teams. Work with other functions (e.g. Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, company and project-specific processes
  • Utilise opportunities with partner organisations to identify and then develop joint technical strategies to expand our combined customer offering; this will include supporting Business Development and Sales strategy
  • Ensure projects/programmes you are responsible for are conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices
  • Ensure that Governance is applied consistently across the technical programmes where you are involved; act as a peer/independent reviewer for other projects or programmes of work where suitable

  • Experience of analytical analysis of metallic structures and failure
  • Knowledge of different metallic manufacturing techniques
  • Proficient in FEA software ideally Abaqus

Essential qualifications for the Senior Structural Engineer:

We value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you have a good understanding of engineering (equivalent to someone who has completed a BEng in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering) and who has experience of structural design to recognised codes of practice either Maritime or Civil, then we would like to hear from you.

This role is 37 Hours per week based at Haslar. Hybrid Working Patterns are available.
