Job summary

Build Maintain Recruit Limited in Bristol is seeking a Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer to join a small, collaborative consultancy focused on architecturally led building projects.

You will design and deliver building structures, perform surveys, supervise projects and mentor junior engineers, with support from a close-knit team. The role offers flexible working arrangements and a path toward Chartered status with IStructE or ICE.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 4 years’ post-graduate structural engineering experience.
• A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience designing a variety of building structures across materials and project types.
• Good knowledge of structural design using steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
• Experience working within a UK structural or civil engineering consultancy.
• Good knowledge of relevant structural design standards and Building Regulations.
• Strong communication skills with clients and architects.
• Experience undertaking structural surveys and defect diagnosis would be beneficial.
• Chartered status with IStructE or ICE would be advantageous, although candidates working towards chartership will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Producing structural calculations, designs and drawings for a range of building structures.
• Structural design using steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
• Working on architecturally led residential, commercial and other building projects.
• Working closely with architects, clients and other construction professionals.
• Undertaking structural surveys of domestic and residential properties.
• Investigating structural defects including cracking, settlement and subsidence.
• Preparing technical reports and recommendations following site inspections.
• Managing your own projects and workload with support from the wider team.
• Supporting and mentoring junior engineers where appropriate.
