Job summary

Arup in Sheffield is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Building Engineering team. You will work within a multidisciplinary group delivering civil and structural projects with a strong emphasis on sustainability and net-zero goals.

The role requires chartered status, strong design and software skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers while delivering packages from inception to completion for a diverse project portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Be degree qualified and chartered via IStructE/ICE.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles.
  • Experience with Eurocode.
  • Ability to communicate through sketching, drawing, presentations and writing.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Deliver projects within commercial targets.

The Opportunity

Climate change • Climate change refers to long‑term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.

We have an opportunity for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Structural Engineer to join our creative and friendly Building Engineering team in Sheffield.

You will be a vital part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative team of around 20 Engineers and Technicians delivering cutting edge projects with a strong focus on sustainability that help facilitate the transition to net‑zero carbon. Our local, regional, national and international projects will allow you to work and succeed in a multicultural business environment.

Current projects comprise a wide range of projects (new build and refurbishment), which include hospitality, leisure and sports venues, education, industrial, residential and commercial projects with a technical focus.

We are looking for a skilled engineer with strongdesign, technical and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi‑professional design teams, taking responsibility for packages of work from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.

Responsibilitiesinclude:

  • Demonstrating a passion for structural engineering, a flair for structural engineering design, and a practical understanding of buildings.
  • Supporting the Arup team in the structural engineering design of projects, taking responsibility for discrete packages of structural engineering work
  • Demonstrate anability to communicate through sketching, drawing, presentations and writing.
  • Checking own and others' work and giving feedback.
  • Understanding priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Mentoring junior members of the team

Is this role right for you?

Requirements and skills:

  • Be degree qualified and have achieved chartershipvia IStructE, ICE or equivalent.
  • Have a strong understanding of engineering principles, and the appropriate use of technical analysis and design software packages.
  • Demonstrable buildings-focused structural engineering experience.
  • Experiencewith Eurocode or equivalent.
  • Have an aptitude for working on your own initiative and being proactive.
  • Take responsibility for projects (or parts of larger projects) and support less experienced team members.
  • Have experience of delivering within internal and external commercial targets.
  • Good understanding of digital workflows.
  • Interest in low- and zero-carbon design.
