Job description

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – we offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Job Title: Senior Structural Engineer

Salary: Competitive

What you’ll be doing:

  1. Analysis and Design of complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards, to support submarine build
  2. Utilise your knowledge of specific regulations & requirements beyond BAE Systems, such as LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, and geometric tolerance
  3. Apply computer-based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modelling, and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame)
  4. Support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of submarine structures, modules, and components
  5. Utilise your knowledge of facility and site restrictions for shipping, handling, alignment, and installation of hull units, large equipment, and structures
  6. Contribute to the production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs in line with contractual requirements to meet deadlines and budget constraints

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  1. Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent, or HND with extensive experience in Civil/Mechanical/Structural Engineering
  2. Experience in Hand Analysis and Design Techniques including report writing
  3. Understanding of Eurocodes and British Standards
  4. Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, lifting handling, and LOLER
  5. Working knowledge of ABAQUS, S-Frame, Foran, MathCAD, and Excel
  6. Member of Professional Institution (IMechE, ICE, IStructE) with IEng status or working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

Desirable

  1. Previous experience in a marine production environment is advantageous

The Specialist Structures Department team:

Work with a team of 14 engineers across various seniority levels, responsible for engineering assessments supporting submarine build. Collaborate with design and production teams to produce safety-critical equipment.
