Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Birmingham seeks a Chartered Engineer to lead the design and delivery of building structures projects across Education, Commercial, Residential, Energy, Defence and Transport. You’ll manage small project teams, mentor engineers and act as a key client contact to ensure high-quality designs.

You’ll work within a multidisciplinary environment, applying BIM standards and contributing to business growth while upholding sustainability, ethics and safety across UK projects.

Qualifications

• Chartered engineer with MIStructE or MICE, or nearing chartership.
• Proven ability to lead structural delivery on small to medium projects.
• Experience with common structural materials and current standards.

Responsibilities

• Deliver multiple projects to programme and budget.
• Produce high-quality, efficient structural designs.
• Apply technical expertise across a broad range of building structures.
• Ensure compliance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and project BIM Execution Plans.

Join our award-winning Building Structures team in Birmingham and help deliver high-impact projects across the UK and beyond.You’ll play a key role in delivering projects within our Buildings & Places practice, taking responsibility for both design and project delivery across a varied client base. You’ll lead and deliver a varied portfolio of building structures projects across sectors including Education, Commercial, Residential, Energy, Defence, and Transport. You’ll:

• Lead the design and delivery of projects from concept to construction
• Manage small project teams and mentor junior engineers
• Act as a key client contact, building strong relationships
• Deliver high-quality, efficient structural designs
• Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary environment
• Identify new opportunities and contribute to business growth

Your role

• Deliver multiple projects, or components of larger schemes, to programme and budget.
• Produce and oversee high-quality, efficient structural designs.
• Apply your technical expertise across a broad range of building structures.
• Ensure compliance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and project BIM Execution Plans.
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, and design teams.
• Lead and support project teams, including mentoring junior engineers.
• Manage your time effectively across competing project demands.
• Oversee and guide small project teams, reporting to the team leader.
• Build strong client relationships and help identify new business opportunities.

About You

• Chartered Engineer (MIStructE or MICE), or close to achieving chartership.
• Proven ability to lead structural delivery on small to medium projects.
• Strong experience designing with common structural materials and current standards.
• Familiarity with Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, or similar tools (desirable).
• Experience delivering projects from concept through to construction.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• A proactive mindset with the confidence to make decisions and take ownership.
