Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to join the Birmingham Building Structures team. This early-career opportunity focuses on developing technical capability, supporting a regional project pipeline, and progressing toward professional qualification with ICE or IStructE.

You will work on design, survey, assessment and refurbishment across public and private sectors, using Eurocodes, BS standards and BIM tools while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (typically 2:1 or above).
• Post-graduate experience in building structures.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status with core objectives started.
• Experience in design of structures using steel and concrete to BS and Eurocodes.
• Experience in design of shallow and deep foundations for buildings.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and commercial awareness.
• Good written and verbal communication for reports.
• Familiar with BIM-enabled delivery and use of AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking structural engineering analysis and design under supervision of a senior engineer.
• Producing structural calculations to Eurocodes and British Standards.
• Drafting structural specifications.
• Working with Technicians to produce relevant structural information.

Job Description Overview AtkinsRéalis is looking to appoint an Assistant Structural Engineer to join our growing Birmingham Building Structures team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career structural engineer to develop their technical capability, contribute to a strong regional pipeline of multidisciplinary projects, and support the continued growth of our Midlands Building Structures offering. AtkinsRéalis Buildings and Places provides multidisciplinary engineering and advisory services and integrated solutions across a wide range of projects relating to buildings and infrastructure. Drawing upon a diverse skill set and a proven track record of delivery we are playing a leading role in some of the world's most challenging and exciting engineering projects across sectors including Education, Commercial, Residential, Transportation, Defence and Energy. The role will involve a mix of new-build, refurbishment, survey and assessment work across public and private sector projects. Due to a number of secured projects and significant pipeline opportunities in the region we are looking to grow our team. AtkinsRéalis develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help you make the best of your abilities and talents. We encourage participation in all forms of training and have an active programme of in-house as well as external training for all of our engineers. Your role

About you

• Experience in the design of structures using the conventional engineering materials including steel and concrete, to both British Standards and Eurocodes.
• Experience in the design of shallow foundations and deep foundations for ordinary building structures.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Commercial awareness.
• Good communication skills, verbal and written (for report writing purposes).
• Familiar with BIM-enabled project delivery and the use of digital engineering tools including AutoCAD, Revit and structural analysis software such as Tekla Structural Designer.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-discipline team.
