Job summary

Belcan is recruiting a Senior Stress Engineer to focus on the structural integrity of rotating components in gas turbines. You will perform detailed stress analyses, develop FE meshes, and collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to optimize performance.

The role requires extensive experience with ANSYS/ABAQUS, NX/HyperMesh, and fatigue software, with the ability to mentor colleagues and communicate findings to authorities and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on rotating machinery.
• Proficient in ANSYS Workbench and APDL for stress analysis.
• Experience in meshing with NX or HyperMesh and fatigue/FEA software.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed stress analysis (static, fatigue, creep, vibration) on rotatives such as discs, shafts, and blades.
• Creation of FE meshes and validation of designs.
• Identify analysis solutions and recommend improvements or alternative methods.
• Utilize FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS) and classical hand calculations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in design, materials, and manufacturing to optimize component performance.
• Prepare and present technical documentation and stress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide mentoring / knowledge sharing with colleagues.

Senior Stress Engineers based Glasgow.

Are you a Senior Stress Engineer passionate about ensuring the safety and performance of Gas Turbines and want to work on cutting-edge aero engine technology?

Come and join Belcan as we are seeking a Senior Stress Engineer to join our team, who will specialise in the structural integrity of rotating components within gas turbines in our offices in Blantyre, Glasgow or Derby. The Senior Stress Engineer will be expected to have a high level of competency in FEA and associated component stress and lifing activities. They will be able to work independently on highly technical tasks within the stress team reporting to Team Leaders and client representatives as required to effectively communicate their work and identify issues as they arise.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed stress analysis (static, fatigue, creep, vibration) on rotatives such as discs, shafts, and blades.
• Creation of FE meshes
• Identify analysis solutions and recommend improvements or suggest alternative methods
• Utilize FEA tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS) and classical hand calculations to validate designs.

• Provide mentoring / knowledge sharing with colleagues

Essential Skills & Experience
