Job description

The De Beers Group Strategy Planning team, within the Pricing, Product and Technology Development team of Diamond Trading, is led by the SVP of Pricing, Product and Technology Development. This team develops the 'Diamond Industry House View' to guide short-term business planning and pricing decisions (Pricing Committee) and the long-term Supply-Demand outlook for strategic planning (Business Planning Committee). It also produces strategic analyses and market updates for key stakeholders, including the CEO Office, CFO, Group Strategy, BD, Corporate Affairs, Brands and Consumer Markets, JV boards, the wider Diamond Trading team, and Anglo American Group Strategy.

The Senior Strategy Planning Analyst - Lab Grown Diamonds (LGD) is responsible for analyzing the LGD industry, culminating in the ‘LGD House View’ and business planning assumptions, supporting the Vice President, Strategy Planning, and the Business Planning Committee.

Key analysis areas include understanding the evolving economics of the LGD industry, its impact on the natural diamond industry, the competitive landscape, and the company's position within the industry.

The analyst owns, develops, and maintains models, tools, and dashboards such as the LGD Supply-Demand model, Market Sizing model, Pivot Tracking dashboard, and others for strategic inputs, including the Market Insight Portal and LGD Hub.

This role is a maternity cover contract.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with stakeholders to generate insights on trends in lab-grown diamond demand, supply, and prices, and their impact on the natural diamond industry.
  2. Lead the LGD hub to present and agree on a ‘House View’ on industry outlooks and business assumptions.
  3. Present LGD assumptions and analyses to the Business Planning Committee, including scenarios and outcomes tracking.
  4. Act as an industry expert on LGD trends and the competitive landscape, sharing key developments with senior stakeholders.
  5. Identify data gaps and work with the BCM Insights team to develop new research programs.
  6. Analyze primary, secondary, and tertiary data sources related to the LGD industry and competitors.
  7. Partner with the Market and Competitor Intelligence team for industry intelligence and market feedback.
  8. Work with the Demand Analytics team to estimate historic and current LGD demand.
  9. Model the impact of LGD substitution on natural diamond demand and develop scenarios.
  10. Maintain an up-to-date view of global LGD production capacity, supply, and price trends.
  11. Contribute original analyses to reports and support stakeholder and senior management presentations.
  12. Manage documentation of data collection and analysis processes.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in econometrics, economics, business, or a technical field.
  2. Strong skills in data collection, challenge, and collation from various sources.
  3. Experience or interest in analytics, modeling, and forecasting.
  4. Financial literacy, capable of interpreting company performance indicators.
  5. Good communication skills for clear reporting of analyses.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel modeling, and Power BI.
  7. Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  8. Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented.
  9. Proven ability to deliver results in complex environments.
