A lifeboat service organization located at The Mumbles Lifeboat Station is seeking a Senior Station Technician to maintain lifeboats and ensure operational readiness. There is an opportunity at The Mumbles Lifeboat Station for a Senior Station Technician to join the team. This would suit someone whose mechanical expertise, resilience, leadership, and management skills are just as strong as their ability to keep The Mumbles Lifeboat in perfect operational order.
Your role
As a Senior Station Technician, most of your time will be utilised ensuring that our Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat, D Class Inshore Lifeboat and associated equipment work to the highest order, ensuring that the Lifeboat Station is well managed, and assist training volunteer crew members – so that when a service call does occur, you, your crew and your lifeboat will be absolutely prepared.
You will not be the sole individual working on the lifeboat and its equipment. You will also lead and work alongside out team of mechanic volunteers at the station and our wider technical support staff to ensure the equipment is maintained to the required standards.
The role of Senior Station Technician is focused for those individuals with an NVQ L4/SVQ L5 in an engineering discipline, a time served engineering apprenticeship, or sound background and experience in mechanical, electrical, or electronic engineering. If these qualifications or experience are not held then suitable individuals may be offered a Station Technician role in lieu (please see Job Profile for Level 3 attached).

You will have the ability to build effective relationships with volunteers at the lifeboat station, the supporters locally, and RNLI staff beyond, while acting as an ambassador for the station and the RNLI within the community.
You will be someone who already holds or is willing and able to work towards the required qualifications and competencies for this role. Attitude and willingness to progress and learn are most important.
You will be personally motivated, prepared to work in isolation and as part of a team, keen to solve problems, drive your own development and support others to develop. The Senior Station Technician (Level 4) role is a 24/7 sea-going emergency response position; successful candidates will need to live within a reasonable distance of The Mumbles Lifeboat Station and be prepared to respond to a pager whilst on duty.
