Job summary

The Lead Engineer of Portal Reports and Insights at Bazaarvoice in Belfast will design distributed, fault-tolerant systems and build high-performance reporting solutions for thousands of weekly reports.

You will mentor engineers, drive engineering best practices, and collaborate across teams to deliver scalable analytics capabilities that power client dashboards and insights.

Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent (education or work-based).
• 7+ years building and supporting scalable, distributed systems with open-source tools.
• Hands-on experience with OO programming and at least one scripting language (e.g., Java/C++/Python).
• Technical leadership and/or mentoring experience.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and writing SQL queries (PostgreSQL a plus).
• Experience with API frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot) and public cloud hosting (AWS preferred).
• Experience with modern build tools (Maven, Jenkins, GitHub) and cloud services (CloudFormation, EMR, S3, EC2).
• Experience with data visualization/analytics tools (D3.js, Tableau, Looker) is a plus.

As the Lead Engineer of Portal Reports and Insights application team, your primary responsibilities will include designing and implementing distributed, fault-tolerant systems and creating high-performance Reporting and Insights applications for Bazaarvoice clients that can run nearly 10,000 reports every week.

These reports and insights are used to produce various metrics about Bazaarvoice products and programs so that their performance can be measured. Reports can also be used to simply export raw data about client UGC like questions, answers, reviews and products, while Insights provides analytical dashboards and data visualizations to help clients understand trends and patterns in their data.

Qualifications

• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent (education or work based)
• 7+ years of experience building and supporting scalable, distributed systems using open-source tools
• Proven hands-on experience with Object Oriented programming languages and with at least 1 scripting language (e.g., Java/C++ and Python/Ruby)
• Prior technical leadership and/or mentorship experience
• Experience with Agile methodologies
• Experience with writing complex SQL queries (any dialect but PostgreSQL is a plus)
• Experience with some sort of API framework (e.g., Spring Boot)
• Experience with public cloud hosting provider (AWS (preferred), Google Cloud, Azure or similar)
• Experience using modern build tools such as Maven, Jenkins, GitHub, etc.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services a strong plus – CloudFormation, EMR, S3, EC2, Cloud Trail, etc.
• Experience with data visualization and analytics tools/frameworks (e.g., D3.js, Tableau, Looker, or similar) is a plus
• Strong analytical, technical, and communication (oral and written) skills
