Job description

Job Description

Company Overview

Flux is pioneering a new class of AI accelerators called Optical Tensor Processing Units (OTPUs). We’ve already developed functioning prototypes and are now scaling our operations in London. Our work environment rewards innovation, speed, and bold thinking.

The role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior / Staff / Principal FPGA Engineer to play a critical role in specifying, designing and building the control and interface functions of the OTPU system. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high speed design (PCIe / ethernet interfaces), interfacing with memory (DDR 3 /4 /5) and other peripherals, precision timing / synchronisation as well as signal processing pipelines.

Responsibilities

  1. Design, develop, and optimise the FPGA hardware.
  2. Work closely with software engineers to help them implement the low-level drivers for controlling and configuring hardware peripherals within our OTPU systems.
  3. Work closely with hardware engineers to synchronise optical components.
  4. Ensure a smooth integration of hardware and software elements.
  5. Implement real-time control algorithms to manage the timing and operation of optical devices and their communication with the system.
  6. Optimise the FPGA design over time to enhance system performance and reliability.
  7. Conduct rigorous testing and validation of the FPGA to ensure seamless operation under demanding conditions.
  8. Debug complex hardware-software interactions and resolve performance bottlenecks.
  9. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, optical, and software engineers, to refine and advance OTPU technology.
  10. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering best practices in FPGA development.
  11. Stay current with advancements in embedded systems and FPGA programming.

Skills & Experience

  1. 5+ years of experience in FPGA, with a strong focus (>3 years) on high speed interfaces and signal processing in FPGAs.
  2. Deep understanding of embedded system architectures.
  3. Extensive experience in synchronising complex hardware components and optimising real-time system performance.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to debug hardware-software interactions effectively.
  5. Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Details

  1. Competitive salary ranging from £150k+, depending on experience.
  2. Stock options in a rapidly growing AI company.
  3. Based in our new 5,000 square foot office in the AI hub of Kings Cross, London.
  4. 25 days PTO policy plus bank holidays.
  5. Private health insurance.
  6. Bonus additional salary of £12,000 per year if you’re based within a 20-minute commute of the office.

If you are passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in AI and thrive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you. Apply now to join Flux and be a key player in shaping the future of computing.
