This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a 5% Fringe payment of gross basic salary.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Prince Charles Eye Unit (Windsor) for an ophthalmic nurse to learn and develop enhanced skills such as intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO), pre-operative assessment, and emergency eye care, to help meet the demands of the service and needs of the patients.
The successful candidate will be part of a large and supportive team, working with the different ophthalmology sub-specialties.
You should be an enthusiastic and committed professional, with the passion and drive to provide the highest quality ophthalmic care to our patients. We work closely with all our ophthalmology teams and all health care professionals.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse who is dynamic, friendly and who strives to provide an excellent standard of care.
The successful candidate will be a supervisor to junior staff and support the department manager with the day-to-day running of the clinical activity. You will assist with the delivery of the ophthalmic services at Prince Charles Eye Unit.
The post holder will facilitate the provision of excellent nursing care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
Be a role model and demonstrate leadership competencies, engaging with research and evidence-based practice.
To support pre-operative assessment, developing essential skills such as undertaking biometry measurements and demonstrating knowledge relating to various ophthalmic procedures to support both service and patient needs.
The post holder will develop key competencies to support emergency eye care, such as nursing assessment and triage of urgent patients, including history taking.
Undertake training according to local policies and procedures to support intravitreal injections (AMD & DMO), and work autonomously where appropriate.

The post holder will support ophthalmology patients through their care pathway.
Educate patients on symptom management and offer support post-diagnosis, serving as a resource for other health professionals.
Demonstrate ophthalmic specialist skills and professional knowledge through ongoing post-registration development. Be a role model for professional practice.
Proactively undertake training in essential ophthalmic skills such as biometry, intravitreal injections, and Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA).
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient care, including appropriate referrals and communication.
Assess patients, develop and evaluate care plans following Trust and national evidence-based guidelines.
Promote a culture of learning and continuous quality improvement in the clinical setting.
In the absence of the department manager, ensure safe and competent nursing care for all patients in your caseload.
Manage your caseload flexibly, supporting junior colleagues and maintaining high standards of care.
Encourage goal review and personal development planning (PDP), providing mentorship and orientation as needed.
Act as a role model, demonstrating RBFT's CARE values in all aspects of work.
