Job summary

Priory Hospital Ayr Clinic is recruiting a Senior Staff Nurse for the Mental Health and Learning Disability unit. The role offers full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with rotational day and night shifts in a two-week pattern and a supportive team focused on compassionate, person-centred care.

You will lead nursing assessments, plan and coordinate care, supervise junior staff, and maintain high standards of clinical records in line with the NMC Code. A vehicle is helpful for the location.

Qualifications

• Qualified Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse with active NMC registration.
• Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in a mental health care environment.
• Good understanding of NMC guidelines, requirements and professional standards.
• Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude with a commitment to change, improvement and delivering high-quality care.
• Ability to work flexibly and use innovative approaches to care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care and clinical interventions to patients/service users, coordinating care delivered by colleagues.
• Lead the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of person-centred care, addressing both physical and mental health needs while promoting patients’ rights, dignity and independence.
• Supervise junior staff and students, work collaboratively with the MDT, maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, and ensure accurate and up-to-date clinical records.
• Work rotational shifts over a two week period.
