Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Haemostasis and Thrombosis Department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The H&T Senior Staff Nurse post is a dynamic role, which encompasses the supervision of the department on a day to day basis and direct patient contact in both the Anticoagulation Clinic and the Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre, with working hours of Monday-Friday, 37.5 hrs.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing, planning and providing specialist nursing advice for patients requiring warfarin dosing, creating haemostasis surgical bridging plans, supporting inpatient areas to provide specialist advice, and working as a key member of the MDT. The role includes triaging patients via the haemophilia and anticoagulation call centre and providing leadership to the nursing and multidisciplinary workforce to deliver high standards of clinical care.

The post holder will also provide clinical supervision to other staff and students, may undertake research, and lead clinical audits in their specialist area. Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users and promoting dignity and human rights through person-centred care principles are central to the role.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the department on a day-to-day basis and provide direct patient contact in the Anticoagulation Clinic and Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre.
  • Deliver the smooth day-to-day running of the service and triage via a nurse-led telephone advisory service.
  • Ensure the highest possible standard of patient care across outpatient areas and support inpatient wards to deliver specialist treatments.
  • Assess, plan and provide specialist nursing advice for patients requiring warfarin dosing; create haemostasis surgical bridging plans; support inpatient areas with specialist advice.
  • Work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team and triage patients via the haemophilia and anticoagulation call centre.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff and students; may undertake research; lead clinical audits in the specialist area.
  • Promote safety, wellbeing, dignity and human rights through person-centred care principles.
Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in managing and prioritising care, ideally within a Haematology, Outpatient or Cardiology setting.
