Job summary

Would you like to join London's leading nursing team? We are looking for a Senior Staff Nurse to join our Day Patient Unit. This is a 15-bedded surgical ward specialising in providing care to various surgical specialties, including spinal injections, minor orthopaedic, ophthalmic, ENT, vascular, minor urology, gynae, and plastics/cosmetic surgery.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have experience working in a similar environment and will be up to date with current practices. Experience will include working within a busy ward and professional, multidisciplinary teams. Job responsibilities

What would be my responsibilities as the Senior Staff Nurse:

  • Maintain confidentiality surrounding patient admission and treatment at all times.
  • Ensure documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales using hospital-approved documentation, in line with NMC and hospital guidelines.
  • Adhere to ward and hospital policies and professional standards, and ensure team members do likewise.
  • Be a clinical expert within the speciality.
  • Provide excellent, evidence-based nursing care for patients.
  • Assess each patient, plan, implement, and evaluate their care, and document this accurately.
  • Create a welcoming, caring, and safe environment for patients and their families.
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers, and staff, supporting them during distressing events.
  • Begin discharge planning at admission, liaising with multidisciplinary teams and other departments as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge through ongoing training and personal development.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager and Deputy Ward Manager in their absence.
  • Support and supervise junior nursing staff and healthcare assistants, acting as a role model.
  • Support the management and development of nursing care and service delivery.
  • Attend meetings and complete actions related to designated link nurse roles.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Experience in one of the specified clinical areas.
  • Evidence of ongoing training and commitment to professional development.
  • Relevant experience and knowledge in the clinical specialties of the ward.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications
  • Registered Level 1 Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Diploma/degree in a relevant subject or evidence of work at level 3.
