Job description

The Jim Shahi unit is a day case unit for cardiology interventional procedures and provides a 24/7 Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention service. The Royal Berkshire has been a top performer consistently regarding Call to Balloon times and Door to Balloon times.

The day case unit has two bays, each with space for 8 patients.

The unit performs the following procedures:

• Electrophysiology studies
• Temporary Pacing
• DC cardioversions

Our department is committed to delivering high standards of patient care, and we are seeking experienced Cath Lab Nurses to join our team.

The nursing team rotates between the two catheter labs and recovery areas. We also care for patients requiring day case frusemide infusions and IV fluids before CT scans.

Within the last year, we have operated a Cardiac Ambulatory Day Case unit on certain days for patients needing urgent cardiologist review.

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will coordinate the unit daily. We look forward to welcoming new members to our experienced team.

You will be expected to fulfill on-call requirements for the Cath Lab.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical and managerial support to the ward manager and junior team
• Offer education, mentoring, and supervision to staff
• Be fully competent in clinical skills required in the Cath Lab, including scrub nurse duties and running the day unit
• Provide leadership and vision for the department
• Report, escalate, and investigate incidents, developing action plans as needed

Job responsibilities

• Deliver patient-focused care addressing complex health needs
• Ensure the smooth operation of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, providing leadership to staff
• Be a fully trained scrub nurse for all cardiac procedures
• Participate in the on-call rota
• Work collaboratively with the Cardiac Care Unit to support staffing
