Senior Staff Nurse

We are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our team in the Teenage and Young Adult Daycare and Ambulatory Care Unit.

You must be a band 6 nurse (paediatric or adult) with at least 2 years of oncology experience. You must also be proficient in chemotherapy administration. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in caring for teenagers and young adults with a wide range of oncology and haematology conditions in a day care and ambulatory care setting.

Main duties of the job

The unit is made up of Ambulatory care, Daycare chemotherapy, supportive care and twice weekly sedated intrathecal lists.

The successful candidate will; work across all units assessing patients for and delivery systemic anti-cancer therapy, providing supportive care in both outpatient and ambulating settings and provide holistic patient centred care.

You will be required to demonstrate experience and skills in this area and have leadership, development and organisation skills to co-ordinate safe efficient delivery of care to this patient group. You will also be required to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of delivering care to this patient group in an age appropriate setting and have a desire to work with teenagers and young adults.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • oRegistered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
  • oAccredited mentorship course or willing to undertake
  • oRelevant accredited clinical course (oncology/haematology 30 credits OR equivalent)
Experience
  • oAt least 2 years' experience in this specialty
  • oProficient in administration of systemic anti cancer therapies
  • oProficient in advanced IV administration skills or working towards.
Skills and Abilities
  • oDemonstrates awareness of the importance of working a multidisciplinary team
  • oEvidence of experience of managing ward/department in the absence of senior nursing staff
  • oExperience of participating in the appraisels of junior members of the team
