Are you ready to take the next step in your cardiology nursing career? We are offering an opportunity for a band 6 senior staff nurse to join C8 and lead by example in our busy and rewarding unit.

C8 – Joint Cardiology & Care of the Elderly Ward
An 18 bedded ward specialising in ongoing care for cardiology and elderly patients, including those requiring palliative or end of life care, dementia and delirium support, and post procedure rehabilitation.

We also care for patients with pulmonary hypertension, heart failure, those who are undergoing TAVI procedures as well as patients with complex discharge needs.

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will:

  • Provide strong clinical leadership, supporting and inspiring junior colleagues.
  • Ensure safe, high quality, evidence based patient care.
    Play a key role in service improvement, staff development, and patient experience.
  • Act as a clinical role model in a fast paced, collaborative environment.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has substantial experience in cardiac or acute care.
    Demonstrates excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing high quality, effective, individualised nursing care to patients by assessing their needs and developing, implementing and evaluating care plans without supervision.
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
  • To support the ward manager to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients. Maintaining accurate clinical observations of patients, utilising nursing skills and competencies.
  • To manage a group of staff nurse and healthcare support workers within their shifts, assign delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.
  • Assisting in the teaching and development of nursing team, healthcare support workers and pre-registration students, helping them to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated nursing staff and healthcare support workers.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse – Valid NMC PIN
  • Minimum of 4 years acute cardiology and 3 years CCU experience
  • Relevant Specialist course CCU/HDU/Cardiac Surgery
  • Educated to Degree level

Experience

  • Significant experience of caring for level 1 and 2 patients in a coronary care setting or heart attack centre.
  • Ability to manage a group of level 1 and 2 patients independently
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
  • NIV/CPAP training/experience
  • Bed Management

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

  • Clear understanding of complex cardiac arrhythmia’s and treatment
  • Pre and Post interventional procedure care
  • Ability to manage complex discharges, supporting the team with providing end of life/palliative care needs, managing safeguarding concerns.
  • A knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision
