Senior Staff Nurse – Pre-Operative Assessment
Pre-Operative Assessment Team

Location: Yorkshire Clinic, Bingley
Hours: Full Time – 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Staff Nurse to join our Pre-Operative Assessment team at The Yorkshire Clinic, Bingley.

About the Role

As a Senior Staff Nurse in our Pre-Operative Assessment team, you’ll be responsible for assessing patients’ health status and ensuring they are fully prepared for their surgical journey. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patients’ physical, psychological, and emotional well-being prior to surgery.

The Yorkshire Clinic supports a wide range of elective surgical specialities, including: Urology, Gynaecology, Colorectal, Orthopaedics, ENT, General Surgery, Cosmetics and Plastics.

Key Responsibilities:

Obtain comprehensive medical histories and make clinical decisions against protocol regarding patient fitness

Plan and coordinate pre-operative care, including complex cases and multidisciplinary referrals

Deliver health education and promotion (e.g., smoking cessation, medicines management, fasting protocols)

Undertake thorough patient assessments to ensure all care needs are met prior to surgery

Communicate clearly with the wider hospital team to ensure seamless surgical planning

Prioritise workloads to deliver high-quality care under minimal supervision

Support and lead junior staff, acting as a role model and mentor

Take the lead in the absence of the Pre-Assessment Sister

Maintain accurate documentation and ensure patient safety at all times

Promote a positive patient experience by delivering compassionate and person-centred care

Contribute to ongoing improvements and clinical excellence across the team

What We’re Looking For:

NMC Registered General Nurse

Previous surgical/medical nursing experience

Excellent organisational and communication skills

Confident in using clinical systems and electronic patient records

Strong ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical judgments

Experience in pre-assessment nursing

Knowledge of risk assessment and patient optimisation protocols
