Job summary

The Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) in the UK is seeking a Senior SRE Squad Lead to guide engineers and shape the reliability of our digital services. You will work hands-on in a modern cloud environment to deliver scalable platforms.

You will lead SRE practice, drive observability, SLIs/SLOs, and CI/CD improvements, partnering with product, delivery and architecture teams across multiple UK locations. This role requires SC clearance and offers hybrid working.

Qualifications

• Experience leading, supporting and developing engineers, incl. line management or mentoring.
• Strong communication skills to relate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and IaC tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Site Reliability Engineers, setting direction and fostering high performance.
• Collaborate with product, delivery and architecture to meet business needs.
• Provide technical leadership in DevOps and SRE practices for reliability and scalability.
• Design, build and maintain cloud-based infra with IaC; enable observability and SLOs.
