Job summary
Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade is seeking a Senior SRE Squad Lead to guide and grow a team of engineers in a modern cloud environment. You will stay hands-on while providing technical leadership across DevOps and SRE practices, focusing on reliability, security and scalable platform services that underpin critical digital products.

Qualifications
- Experience leading, supporting and developing engineers, including line management or mentoring.
- Strong communication to explain technical concepts to stakeholders.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and modern DevOps/SRE.
- Experience designing IaC solutions using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code in at least one language.
- Proven track record in designing and operating reliable distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of Site Reliability Engineers with a clear direction.
- Collaborate with product, delivery and architecture to meet needs.
- Provide technical leadership across DevOps and SRE practices.
- Coach and mentor engineers within DDaT and broader teams.
- Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure using IaC.
- Develop observability practices: monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting.
- Define and embed SLIs, SLOs and error budgets.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines for safe, frequent releases.
- Oversee live service reliability and post-incident learning.
- Ensure security, resilience and compliance in engineering.
