Job summary

Capital on Tap is hiring its first dedicated Database Performance Engineer to own performance and scale of our SQL Server estate on Azure, ensuring fast paths stay fast as volume grows. You’ll join a small, agile team of DBAs and SREs, focusing on latency, cost and reliability rather than ticket queues.

You’ll optimize queries, enable horizontal scaling, and build self-serve tooling for developers to diagnose performance issues, while championing HA/DR and infrastructure as code across the

Qualifications

• Experience with ORMs (Entity Framework) and related tradeoffs.
• Substantial production SQL Server experience at scale.
• Deep understanding of query optimisers, indexing, statistics, and wait types.
• Proven track record of measurable performance improvements.
• Experience scaling relational data with partitioning, caching, and read replicas.

Responsibilities

• Own query and index performance across our transactional SQL Server estate.
• Investigate horizontal scaling techniques (multi-cluster, AGs, sharding).
• Identify bottlenecks on latency-critical paths and enforce p99 budgets.
• Own HA/DR design and runbooks; manage backups and restoration testing.
• Build self-serve tooling for query plan regressions and diagnostics.
