Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will work in special school settings, supporting pupils with complex learning needs, including autism and profound multiple learning disabilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in educational settings and delivering therapy services at universal, targeted, and specialist levels. You will collaborate with teaching and support staff to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented, fostering shared responsibility for supporting students’ communication needs throughout the school day.

Working Pattern: 22.5 hours per week over 41 weeks (Term Time)

Salary: £22,681.20 pro-rated based on hours and weeks worked. Full-time equivalent salary: £41,490

Location: Stockport

You will support the ethos of wider clinical services and the Together Trust.

Key Responsibilities include:

1. Managing a clinical caseload of students in collaboration with teachers, class teams, and the wider MDT.
2. Liaising with parents, families, and carers, advising on speech, language, and communication development issues.
3. Providing clinical supervision to junior Speech and Language Therapy colleagues.
4. Preparing assessment reports and intervention plans for individual pupils.
5. Ensuring clinical practice is current and evidence-based.
6. Participating in training, reading research articles, and applying audit and research in practice.
7. Maintaining a personal CPD portfolio to meet RCSLT & HCPC requirements.

About you:

• Degree in speech and language therapy.
• Recent professional development evidence.
• Current registration with RCSLT and HCPC.
• Experience with standardised assessments.
• Experience working in special educational settings.
• Experience with young people and adults with complex needs, including Autism and PMLD.
• Knowledge of relevant assessments and outcome measures.
• Understanding of safeguarding and helping young people with communication difficulties stay safe.
• Knowledge of clinical governance.
• Commitment to equality and diversity.
