Job Description:

Are you ready to play a central role in directing the future of building safety and regulation?

We are seeking a Senior Chartered Professional with deep expertise in building control, fire safety, and building surveying to help lead the evolution of standards and guidance across the profession. This is more than a technical role; it is a unique opportunity to shape national and global approaches to fire and building safety, and influence how the built environment responds to legislative, societal, and environmental challenges.

The Role

This strategic position will see you drive the development of trusted professional standards, policy positions, and guidance influencing regulatory reform and professional practice worldwide.

With your expertise and credibility, you’ll lead the profession’s response to building safety, fire risk, and regulatory change, ensuring surveyors and regulators have the knowledge and tools to protect people and property. You will engage at senior levels with government departments, safety bodies, and industry leaders, acting as a key voice for the surveying profession and helping define the future of regulatory excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the creation and evolution of authoritative standards and guidance in fire safety, building safety, and building control.
  • Lead national and international engagement on regulatory and policy developments, including the Building Safety Act and evolving fire safety regimes.
  • Represent the profession at the highest levels, offering strategic input to government and regulators on emerging risks and long-term reform.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of professional competency frameworks and qualification pathways, ensuring they reflect current and future practice needs.
  • Provide timely, high-quality advice and leadership to members, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert, influencing internal and external thinking on regulation, safety, and technical excellence.

About You

  • MRICS or FRICS qualified, through the Building Surveying or Building Control pathway.
  • Recognised authority in fire safety and/or building safety, with significant experience in technical, regulatory, or advisory roles.
  • Confident working across complex stakeholder environments, including government, industry, and safety regulators.
  • Passionate about raising standards and driving positive change in the public interest.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, capable of influencing diverse professional, political, and public audiences.
  • Committed to thought leadership, technical excellence, and helping shape the next generation of safe, sustainable buildings.
