Role Overview

At VoCoVo, our software engineering teams develop our Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings that run on our cloud computing platform, and the software that runs on our large estate of hardware appliances ‘on prem’ at our customers' stores.

We currently have vacancies across two closely linked development teams, these positionswill report to the Technical Lead and workclosely within a multi disciplined agilescrum team including Product, Delivery and QA. Throughout our hiring process,we will work with you to determine which team is the best fit for you.

"Red Pandas" - This team is focused on services and tools that facilitate the management of customer estates at scale.Theteam willprovide tools for our Customer Support team, channel partners / distributors, and retailcustomers, enabling them to install, configure, maintain and update the firmware and software deployed in stores. The work spans the full stack from the user interface within the cloud service to the computing hardware in each store.

"Velociraptors" -This team is one of a pair of teams focused on our ‘on prem’ solution. Thisincludes the integration and management of the hardware and software that makes upVoCoVo’s on premise offering,including where required, working with the technology
partners who provide our devices. This pair of teams will be the development department'ssubject matter experts on VoCoVo’s connected store solutions.Development teams are supported by a Systems Engineering team, responsible fornetworking, in-store hardware and OS, a Cloud platform team, an Enabling team whoprovide the overarching technical strategy and architecture, and the other teamTechnical Leads.

What we're looking for

The following skills are highly desirable but we do not expect you to have them all:

  • Hands on experience with Backend Node.js/Typescript,with demonstrable experience of impacting important projects in aSenior position.
  • Full stack engineering experience utilising modern front end development tools and libraries such as React.
  • Strong experience in the design, implementation and integrationof HTTP APIs.
  • Great communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear manner (both verbally and in writing).
  • Hands on design and operational experience of SQL and/or NoSQLdatabases.
  • Experience with container based development workflows and automation (Docker/K8s).
  • A good level of familiarity with Linux operating system.
  • Experience with authentication models.
  • An advocate for high technical standards, you'll be passionate about consistently setting and maintaining high standards for code quality, architecture and best practices.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of yourdiscipline and are able to operate independently, making your own judgmentsabout when to consult the Technical Lead and other colleagues.

"Nice to have" skills

  • Experience working with fleets of IoT hardware, or equivalent challenges of remote systems.
  • Exposure to and an understanding of MQTT and the Eclipse foundations Sparkplug certification.
  • Writing of integrating authentication and account systems like OAuth2, SAML, LDAP, AD.
  • An understanding of Microservice and Monolith patterns and migration strategies (previous experience of undertaking migrations would be desirable).
  • Cloud experience (Azure cloud services), although experience with any cloud technology is appreciated.
  • Experience withremote device software updating tools, such as Mender.

  • Conduct code reviews and champion high coding standards to maintain code quality.
  • Proactively focus on identifying and mitigating technical risks.
  • Support the Technical Lead and Product Manager in making choices and planning ahead for future work on the product roadmap.
  • Encourage collaboration, share your knowledge and mentor more junior members of the team.
  • Take a genuine interest in the success of the team and maintain a commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

Salary
Salary range: £68,000 - £78,000
