Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a talented Senior Systems Engineer to join the Security Rules team. You will own complex technical problems, mentor others, and help shape the reliability of Cloudflare-scale systems.

Strong preference for Rust and Go skills and experience with distributed architectures. You’ll work on microservices using Rust and Go, engage with multiple databases, and collaborate across security, network engineering, SRE, and product management.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant professional experience with a technology company.
• Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, C++, or a similar systems-level language.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical projects from ambiguity through delivery.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with empathy and ownership.
• Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing technical designs.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain the software systems that comprise Cloudflare’s Application Security Product Offering such as Rate Limiting, Web Application Firewall and more.
• Lead technical design and execution for complex projects, defining architecture, milestones, and delivery plans.
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management to design scalable solutions.
• Raise technical bar by reducing toil and influencing long-term engineering direction.
• Review work across all stages of the lifecycle to ensure high-quality code.
• Mentor engineers and provide design feedback to grow ownership.
• Work with Rust, Go, databases, Docker, and Kubernetes.
