Job summary

Wilsons Auctions is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and evolve Gavel, the enterprise auction platform. You will work across Node.js/NestJS backend APIs and React/Next.js front-ends, delivering reliable features and AI-assisted development workflows.

Based in regional offices (Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle or Dublin), you will collaborate with a supplier and internal teams, shaping architecture, security and scalable cloud delivery while driving best practices and faster AI-enabled

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience with TypeScript services, Node.js/NestJS backend APIs and modern React/Next.js front-ends.
• Strong practical experience using AI-assisted development workflows, ideally including Claude Code, with AI PDLC best practices.
• Strong MySQL fundamentals (schema design, indexing, performance) and TypeORM migrations.
• Production experience on AWS (S3, CloudFront, EC2/ECS, RDS/Aurora, ElastiCache, Cognito) and IaC (CDK).
• Integrating third-party APIs (REST/SOAP), webhooks and payment/KYC flows.
• Testing mindset (unit, integration, E2E) and CI/CD automation.
• Security awareness (MFA, JWT, sanitisation, least privilege).

Responsibilities

• Deliver feature improvements, new features and bug fixes across the Gavel monorepo, including backend API and frontend portals.
• Maintain and evolve the backend API with Node.js, NestJS and TypeORM migrations.
• Enhance the Next.js website for SEO and fast content delivery.
• Build real-time auction capabilities (Socket.IO, AppSync) and robust search via OpenSearch.
• Own end-to-end integrations with multiple external services and APIs.
• Instrument, monitor and tune services using CloudWatch and Redis.
• Contribute to CI/CD and IaC with AWS CDK and automated testing.
• Champion security with IAM, encryption, WAF and secrets management.
