Job summary

Lancesoft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and scale backend services for prototype wearables in our Cambridge data collection lab. You will ingest multi-modal sensor data to ensure fast, accurate, and reliable pipelines and integrate prototype devices into data collection workflows.

Responsibilities include deploying and optimizing distributed systems, building tooling for validation and diagnostics, and providing onsite troubleshooting in a live lab environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend Python experience.
• Strong Linux and Bash scripting skills.
• Experience building RESTful distributed systems and APIs.
• Familiarity with real-time data pipelines and sensor streams.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to support and scale software systems inside our Cambridge data collection lab. You will build and integrate backend services for cutting-edge prototype wearables, handling multi-modal sensor streams (audio, video, IMU) to ensure data collection is fast, accurate, and reliable., Develop backend services to integrate prototype wearable devices into data collection pipelines.

• Deploy, monitor, and optimize distributed systems ingesting real-time sensor modalities.
• Build automated tooling for data validation, system health, and pipeline diagnostics.
• Provide onsite troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and network debugging in a live lab environment.
• Collaborate with audio/video engineers, technicians, and international research teams.

Requirements

• Python: 8+ years of professional backend software engineering and data processing experience.
• Linux & Automation: Strong Linux systems knowledge and shell scripting (Bash).
• Networking & Distributed Systems: Solid understanding of IP networking (IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, routing) and building RESTful/concurrent distributed systems.
• APIs: Practical experience with modern frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Work Arrangement: 100% onsite in Cambridgeshire across central Cambridge and Bourn Quarter facilities.
