DoorDash is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack to join our London team. You will help build and scale high-performance features across the entire stack, delivering a world-class experience for customers, partners, and riders.

You’ll work in a hybrid setup (London office, typically 3 days in office), collaborating with PMs, designers, and engineers to drive technical execution and product impact at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience building web-based applications in a modern stack (Go/Ruby/Python/Scala).
• Ability to design and operate web architecture at scale.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL backends (Redis/DynamoDB/Elasticsearch).

We partner with some of the largest grocery retailers in the world, as well as a large number of small independent grocers.

In November 2023 we launched our non-food retail offering, the company 'Shopping', where we work with large and small merchants. We oversee all operations within the grocery and retail ecosystem, ensuring stores are equipped to receive and efficiently process orders. Our solutions empower stores to manage orders seamlessly through multiple channels, including our in-house app, API integration, and devices pre-installed with our software. Additionally, we provide tools to maintain and update product catalogs, ensuring accurate inventory for consumers. The technology we've developed enables our partners to pick the correct items swiftly while keeping inventory data current, optimizing both efficiency and accuracy.

What You'll Be Doing

This role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office.

Here's what your day-to-day might look like:

Drive technical execution by designing, building, and scaling backend services and frontend components that handle high-traffic workloads (20krpm and above). Lead architectural improvements and code reviews, ensuring the efficiency, visibility, and operational health of your team's systems. Partner with cross-functional disciplines (PMs, Experience Designers) to plan projects, foresee dependencies, and mitigate technical risks. Break down complex problems into deliverable choices, influencing the roadmap and technical direction within your team. Support the growth of others by mentoring colleagues and taking an active role in our engineering hiring process to build high-performing teams.

What You'll Need to Thrive

Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:

Significant experience building web-based applications in a modern stack; we use Go, Ruby, Python, and Scala, and we're looking for someone keen to work across them.

Proven ability to design and operate web architecture at scale, specifically with systems handling significant request volumes.

Demonstrated ownership of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and experience with \"NoSQL\" backends such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.

A commitment to software craft, with a pride in writing readable, well-designed, and thoroughly tested code.

Strong collaborative leadership skills, with a track record of guiding implementation choices and supporting the personal growth of teammates.
