Job summary

Home Page & Merchandising Platform team at Deliveroo, owning the backend that powers the homepage experience for millions of customers. You're work closely with Product and Design, contribute to a platform that's evolving alongside Deliveroo's broader integration with DoorDash and Wolt, and help shape how we build at scale. We're leaning into AI-assisted engineering to ship faster while keeping a high craft bar.

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack to join our London team. In this role you'll work across the stack, own features end to end, partner closely with Product and Design, and lead technical planning.

What You’ll Be Doing

This role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office.

Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:

Drive technical execution by designing, building, and scaling backend services and frontend components that handle high-traffic workloads (20krpm and above).

Lead architectural improvements and code reviews, ensuring the efficiency, visibility, and operational health of your team's systems.

Partner with cross-functional disciplines (PMs, Experience Designers) to plan projects, foresee dependencies, and mitigate technical risks.

Break down complex problems into deliverable choices, influencing the roadmap and technical direction within your team.

Support the growth of others by mentoring colleagues and taking an active role in our engineering hiring process to build high-performing teams.

What You’ll Need to Thrive

Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:

Significant experience building web-based applications in a modern stack; we use Go, Ruby, Python, and Scala, and we’re looking for someone keen to work across them.

Proven ability to design and operate web architecture at scale, specifically with systems handling significant request volumes.

Demonstrated ownership of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and experience with "NoSQL" backends such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Elasticsearch.

A commitment to software craft, with a pride in writing readable, well-designed, and thoroughly tested code.

Strong collaborative leadership skills, with a track record of guiding implementation choices and supporting the personal growth of teammates.
