What's the opportunity?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Smoothwall Appliance Team. This critical product functions as a firewall and internet safety filter, providing content filtering, activity reporting, and safeguarding alerts for on-site devices. Your contributions will directly enhance the core functionality of this product, safeguarding students worldwide.

Responsibilities

• System fitness: Collaborate with engineers to refine and evolve the product architecture, ensuring it meets technical, business, and user needs, and adapts to new requirements and risks.
• Predictable delivery: Work with the Product Manager during discovery phases to balance quality, risk, and value, supporting realistic planning and early issue detection.
• Technical leadership: Set high standards through quality coding, proactive team engagement, and continuous improvement, while remaining hands-on and guiding data-informed decisions.

Minimum Requirements

• 5+ years of production software development experience.
• Strong skills in C and C++ programming.
• Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
• Proven experience developing for Linux environments.
• Solid understanding of IP networking.
• Willingness to learn new technologies.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Perl, Go, and Python.
• Knowledge of network security, packet filtering, proxying, firewalls, VPNs, and IPS/IDS.
• Experience with user authentication systems (Active Directory, Entra ID, Google Workspace, RADIUS).
• Familiarity with Linux tools and DevOps practices.
