Job summary

STS Defence in Gosport is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development and delivery of advanced software for defence programmes. You will guide a small team, ensure quality and support bid activity while advancing technology.

This role offers technical leadership across the software lifecycle, from requirements through deployment, with emphasis on cradle-to-grave solutions, embedded systems, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
• Experience with C++, C#, Java, and web development (HTML, CSS, JS)
• Exposure to embedded development (Linux, bash/shell scripting, Qt/QML)
• Strong track record in cradle-to-grave software solutions and TRL processes
• Experience with servers, version control, Bugzilla, and automated testing
• Experience with software development lifecycle processes and traceability
• Experience with cloud-based big data solutions desirable
• Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day software development in a small team
• Design and implement software changes through change control in spiral development
• Continuously improve software engineering capabilities
• Lead planning, delivery and assurance of software work packages
• Oversight and guidance to project team members on installation tasks
• Provide software input into bid preparation and contracts
• Review and improve policies and procedures for software activities
• Support project software requirements and stakeholder meetings
• Explore opportunities for further business development
