Job summary

FanDuel is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Core Marketing Platforms teams in Scotland. You will build and optimize high-performance microservices that power FanDuel's marketing ecosystem, enabling real-time customer communications, personalized promotions, and targeted campaign delivery.

You will design scalable, event-driven systems handling large volumes of real-time data to deliver intelligent insights to marketing partners.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong backend experience with Java.
  • Experience with AWS and IaC (Terraform).
  • Experience with event streaming technologies like Kafka.
  • Experience with high-volume, cloud-based systems.
  • Containers (Docker) and Kubernetes; modern architectures.

Responsibilities

THE POSITION

We'relooking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our Core Marketing Platforms teams, whereyou'llbuild andoptimizehigh-performance microservices that power FanDuel's marketing ecosystem.You'llwork on systems enabling critical capabilities such as real-time customer communications, personalized promotions, and targeted campaign delivery.

Your work will focus on designing highly scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data, delivering intelligent insights to marketing partners.You'llhelp enable data-driven, personalized experiences for millions of customers across our platform.

You'llwork within a modern microservices and event-driven architecture, buildingMartechsolutions enhanced by AI to drive customer engagement and retention.

  • Take the long-term view and consider what volumes our systems can handle today, vs 3 years from now.

  • Make existing systems simpler (e.g.byconsolidatingredundant systems,deletingunnecessary code, or removing/updating out of date documentation).

  • Coaching and developing other software engineers' technical skills.

  • Lead projects with a holistic view of the strategic direction of the vertical.

  • Defining the architecture of the future, enabling our systems toutilizemodern technologies to their fullest whilst achieving our goals, while ensuring that it is balanced with enough time to focus on operationally improving our existing systems.

  • Solve complex problems, seeking input and guidance from team members

  • Take defined design and turn it into codeand deliver it on schedule, applyingappropriate technologiesand current software engineering best practices.

  • Write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects

  • Participate in team design,scopingand prioritization discussions

  • Work effectively with other team members& identifyany opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions.

  • You understand proper data storage, classification, optimizationtechniques.

  • You estimate stories/tasks and deliver them on time.

  • You keep yourself up to date with market standards, open-source frameworks, and other industry tools.

  • You understand the maintenance characteristics, run-time properties, and dependencies of your team's software, including hardwareplatform, operatingsystemand build dependencies.

  • Youparticipatein the on-call support rotation for your organization.

  • Contribute to the professional development of colleagues, improving their technical knowledge andthe engineeringpractices.

  • You clearly document your software to ensure that future generations of developers understand the intention behind the features and components you build.

  • In the event ofa problem, you can troubleshoot and thoroughly resolve defects.

  • Most importantly, you are humble, pragmatic, self-managed, thirsty for knowledge, neversatisfied,and always challenge the norm. Responsible for the state of the code you both inherit and produce.

What we’re looking for in our next teammate
  • Degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong backend experience with Java

  • Experience with AWS as well as understanding DevOps concepts such asIaC(we use Terraform)

  • Experience with event streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka.

  • Good grasp on relational, non-relational databases, messagingqueuesand handling concurrency.

  • Experience working with high volume systems.

  • Understandingof modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances.

  • Strong experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.

  • Understating ofcontainers (e.g., Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).

  • Expert experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices in the SDLC.

  • Strong senseof ownership, urgency, and drive.

  • Familiarity working in an Agile environment.

  • Passion for working within a fast-paced environment and can adapt to change.
