Job summary

On the Beach Group plc is seeking a senior backend software engineer to design and build scalable backend services and APIs for customer-facing applications and internal systems.

You'll work with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and data stores (SQL/NoSQL) to deliver high-performance, resilient systems at scale, with a remote-first hybrid setup and in-person collaboration at the Manchester office on a bi-weekly cadence.

Qualifications

  • Strong commercial backend software engineering experience.
  • C# and .NET or comparable experience building modern backend applications.
  • Experience designing and developing APIs.
  • Experience building distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
  • Experience developing cloud-native applications, ideally within AWS.
  • Experience working with messaging, asynchronous processing, or event-driven architecture.
  • Experience designing reliable integrations with external or internal systems.
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL data stores.
  • Experience building scalable systems handling significant traffic or data volumes.
  • Experience with performance optimisation, caching, and latency reduction.
  • Experience designing for resilience and failure.
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and operating production systems.
  • Experience with automated testing and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and evidence of solving comparable problems at scale.
  • Ability to independently solve complex engineering problems.
  • Ability to think about customer and commercial impact of technical decisions.
  • Understanding of trade-offs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
  • Ability to contribute meaningfully to technical and architectural discussions.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Ability to raise engineering standards through collaboration.
  • Ability to help less experienced engineers develop.
  • Comfort working in an environment where priorities and problems can change quickly.
  • Eligible to work full-time in the UK.
