Job description

Across 20+ years of delivering financial planning and analytics products that are powerful yet simple to use, we’ve tackled complex challenges head-on. Along the way, we’ve had our share of failures, but we learn fast, adapt, and keep moving forward.

This mindset keeps us at the leading edge, creating products that don’t just help businesses; they change the way people work.

Our Analytics team is building an experience that empowers customers to explore their data across dimensions and uncover insights through a simple yet powerful interface. It’s a very exciting time for the product — we've just launched to customers and are continuing to roll out new features based on user feedback, build supporting services and integrations with other products in the Phocas suite, and planning for the addition of AI capabilities within Analytics to deliver even greater value to customers.

You'll be a key player in a small, dynamic product team, shaping the direction of development and driving best practices. You'll leverage your expertise to solve complex challenges, mentor other engineers, and continuously refine agile processes. Your impact will extend beyond code: guiding technical decisions, fostering collaboration, and helping the team deliver high-quality, innovative solutions.

We’re looking for someone who :

  • Moves fast but stays thoughtful – You know when to shift up a gear and when to seek more information.
  • Has a growth mindset – You’re always learning and looking for ways to improve.
  • Is supportive & collaborative – You thrive in a team environment, helping others succeed as much as yourself.
  • Loves solving tough problems – You get energy from breaking down complexity and devising elegant solutions.
  • Wants to have fun – You bring a positive energy and enjoy working with great people.

Why work at Phocas?

  • People – when we ask what people like about working here, 'the people’ is the single most common answer
  • Social / fun stuff – opportunities to get together, sometimes (optional) silly games, & food. We all really like food.
  • 10% PD Time – we give all our engineers one day a fortnight to focus on learning and development
  • Our office – spacious, conveniently located in sunny Sydenham, plenty of parking for four-, two- or even single wheeled vehicles.
  • Benefits : Southern Cross, Life, TPD and Income Protection Insurance, extra paid parental leave, educational reimbursement and more!
  • Flexibility : Hybrid working policy, flexible hours

Phocas is an Accredited Employer and typically we are strong supporters of international talent, but due to current visa settings and processing times, we can only consider applicants with current NZ working rights.
