Job summary

Harrington Starr in Newcastle is seeking an experienced Trading Systems Software Engineer to join their electronic trading division. The role centers on building low-latency C#.NET components and FIX connectivity for institutional desks.

You will work on high-performance, event-driven systems, collaborating with traders and quants, with hybrid work and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Microsoft tech development in trading systems.
• Strong .NET and C# skills; deep knowledge of concurrency/multithreading.
• Proven experience in low-latency pricing and trading systems with event-driven architecture.
• Excellent performance profiling and optimisation abilities.
• Experience in a low-latency, zero-GC environment (eFX a plus).
• Knowledge of FIX, SBE encodings and low-latency messaging (Aeron/29West).
• Familiarity with fault-tolerant, HA, distributed computing.
• Right to work in the UK without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Build the next generation of low-latency trading systems from the ground up.
• Develop core server-side C#.NET components across order management, market connectivity, low-latency messaging and price distribution.
• Work deep in the stack — profiling, optimisation and tuning under live trading conditions.
• Application building for advanced FIX Connectivity development.
• Collaborate closely with front office traders, quants and product teams.
• Own issues end-to-end — from design through to production support.
• Contribute to the technical strategy of a fast-growing trading platform.
