The Role

We are growing and now need a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in Leeds. The role will be responsible for designing and developing software systems on behalf of Abstract’s clients. This role is key to developing innovative solutions to resolve client challenges, providing guidance to junior members of the development team on project work, and driving continuous improvement of technical practises across the organisation.

Responsibilities

Architect, design, and implement complex software systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.
Determine the structure and design of web pages, optimising for speed and scalability.
Maintain high quality code.
Identify and resolve coding problems.
Adapt architectural designs and implement design patterns to support solution development.
Identify and rectify security weaknesses within project solutions, ensuring source code, configuration, and systems are kept secure.
Line manage offshore team members, ensuring alignment on project goals, technical standards, and delivery timelines while fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and effective communication across time zones.
Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to junior developers across the business.
Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the development team.
Lead on client projects as required.
Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, educating more junior team members where appropriate.
Support the implementation of new technologies that enhance our service offerings.
Work closely with clients, project managers, and other stakeholders to define software requirements and project scopes.
Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including project management, quality assurance, and operations, to ensure successful software delivery.

Required Skills and Experience

Experience operating as a full stack developer.
Experience in designing and developing responsive web apps.
Experience in designing and developing RESTful API web services.
Understanding of key design principles.
Experience with object‑oriented development.
Proficiency with the C# server‑side language.
Proficiency with the .NET server‑side framework.
Proficiency with fundamental front‑end languages such as HTML, CSS, and TypeScript.
Proficiency with TypeScript frameworks such as Angular, React.
Experience with responsive and adaptive design.
Proficient with database technology such as MySQL, MS SQL Server, and MongoDB.
Proficient with unit test and mocking frameworks such as NUnit, XUnit, Moq.
Proficient with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
Good problem‑solving skills and strong attention to detail.
Experience leading a team of software engineers.
