Job summary

Searchability® in London is seeking a highly capable Rust Engineer with a Founding Engineer mindset to own products end-to-end. You’ll work across product, backend, infrastructure and data, moving between frontend when needed, and influence technology direction from architecture to production.

Salary is up to £130,000 with bonus and a permanent, hybrid London role. You’ll collaborate closely with the founding team to ship production systems and define engineering standards as the company scales.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial software engineering experience with Rust and evidence of building and shipping production systems.
• Experience in early-stage businesses, autonomy, and greenfield products.
• Ability to move across product, backend, infrastructure and data as needed.
• Frontend experience with React/TypeScript is highly desirable.

Job description

We're hiring a highly capable Rust Engineer to join a fast-growing sports technology business building products used across the global sports and betting market.

This isn't a traditional backend role. We're looking for someone with a Founding Engineer mentality who wants ownership across the entire technology stack and is comfortable moving between product engineering, backend systems, infrastructure, data and, where needed, frontend development.

You’ll work closely with the founding team to take problems from initial idea through architecture, implementation and production. You’ll have significant influence over both technical decisions and what gets built, rather than simply working through predefined tickets.

What you’ll be doing

• Building and owning production systems primarily in Rust
• Taking products and features end-to-end from concept through to production
• Working across product, backend, infrastructure and data
• Designing high-performance, reliable and scalable services
• Building and optimising APIs, databases and data-intensive systems
• Contributing to architecture and infrastructure decisions
• Working directly with product and commercial stakeholders to understand problems and determine the right technical solution
• Contributing across the wider stack when required, including frontend development
• Helping establish engineering standards and technical direction as the team scales
• Taking genuine ownership of problems rather than being restricted to a specific part of the stack

What we’re looking for

Strong commercial software engineering experience with Rust and evidence of building and shipping production systems.

You’ll need to be an engineer who thinks end-to-end. We’re particularly interested in people who have worked in early-stage businesses, built greenfield products, operated with significant autonomy or previously behaved like a Founding Engineer.

Experience across areas such as cloud infrastructure, distributed/backend systems, databases, data engineering, APIs and DevOps would be highly valuable. You don’t need to be an expert in every area, but you should be comfortable moving across the stack and learning quickly.

React / TypeScript frontend experience is highly desirable, particularly if you’ve previously built complete products spanning both backend and frontend.

We’re looking for someone who is commercially minded, comfortable working closely with stakeholders and customers, and capable of turning loosely defined business problems into well-designed technical products.

Salary: Up to £130,000 + bonus
